Petrified Wood Doorway
This magical petrified wood doorway was cut from a stone found by our family near our home in southern Oregon. We think the distinctive curly markings in the wood grain were formed due to compression during mineralization. The last photo shows a small vein of remarkably clear agate at the base of the cabochon.
The silver frame has a distinctly Tolkien-esque vibe, bringing to mind the wood elves of Mirkwood! Hand shaped leafing vines, a cluster of mushrooms, and the tree on the back are topped off with a matching custom bail. The silver is polished to bright and gleaming!
Silver Ivy Circlet
Calling all fairies, elves, royalty, druids, bog witches, fauns, and other fanciful creatures!
This hair piece is a hefty chunk of sterling silver, shaped into a remarkably delicate-looking ivy vine. There are seven ivy leaves in decreasing sizes on each side of the central loop, each hand-shaped and textured. The band is not closed and can be gently bent to fit virtually any head size.
The points of the ivy leaves have been softened for maximal comfort during wear, but this piece does have many points and jags that could catch on hair or garments. If it will be worn with an elaborate hairstyle, we recommend setting it in place with bobby pins and not constantly readjusting it!
This piece would be suitable for a fairytale wedding, renn faires, cosplay, coven gatherings, and more… I dare say it would brighten the day of every shopper at the grocery store. ;)
Applegate Jade Lily Pad With Dragonfly
That tiny, perfect lily flower is entirely handshaped from silver, with a copper center. The dragonfly tracing swooping circles is also entirely handmade, right down to its rolled, textured silver wings. And the back! Those long, languorous leaves are the perfect complement to the copper-tipped cattail.
The stone is a dark, gemmy applegate jade (bowenite) found by our family, and the backlit picture shows how it glows yellow-green with light behind it. The whole piece perfectly encapsulates halcyon days by a pond.
Copper adornments are untreated and can be kept polished bright or left to develop a natural patina over time. While the lily's petals are not dangerously sharp, the lily flower is very 3-dimensional and could snag on a loose-knit garment.
Silver Oak Leaf Clothing Pin
This hand-fabricated sterling silver clothing pin is extremely versatile-- it could add a flash of fabulous fancy to a dress shawl for an evening out, yet won't look out of place on a warm cap at the farmer's market!
The shots with the original leaf and twig are fun-- you can see how details like the surface texture of the twig have been incorporated, and the look of the hard core and softer surface of the original twig has even been reproduced in silver! An actual oak leaf from the forest around us was used as inspiration, and will be included with the final piece!
The twig passes through two soldered arches on the back of the leaf to hold it in place and will work on virtually any knit or crocheted garment (it may be a little loose if used on veeery thin garments). We tried it on hats, scarves, and even as a buttonhole decoration on a coat!
This piece is solid 0.925 sterling silver. The leaf measures 9.5 cm long and about 4 cm at its widest point. The twig/pin is 10.2 cm long. This piece is one of a kind!
Cat Tail Bangle Bracelet
This assertive solid sterling bracelet is formed from hand-fabricated cat tail leaf blades and flower heads. It looks like a cuff bracelet, uniquely designed for the gap to be on top of the wrist, but wears like a bangle. The pointy tips and sharp leaves look daunting, but the bracelet is designed to be comfortably smooth against bare skin. That said, care should be taken if it will be paired with loose-knit garments or physically friendly people.
This bracelet will look best on a wrist that is 6.5-7.5 inches in circumference, but the silver is springy so there is a little play at either end of that range. Do not be tempted to put it on as a cuff bracelet— the pointy end of the cat tail is designed to be comfortable during wear, but it will scrape you if you put it on that way!
Oak Leaves On Red Jasper
Autumn is in the air! And on the ground…
The realistically rough and knobbly silver tree trunk contrasts beautifully with each unique, handmade oak leaf and the smooth, polished silver that completes the frame.
But this pendant has a dark side! While the front features the familiar oaks that comprise most of the forest around our southern Oregon home, the back features our least favorite lurker in the forest’s understory: poison oak! The two oaks are only related in name, but they are fitting representatives of the beauty and danger in nature.
The striking black and red cabochon was found by our family in Humboldt County, California. We suspect it is mostly comprised of red jasper in an unknown black conglomerate. The stone is slightly porous so the surface does not have a perfect, mirror polish— small imperfections can be seen when light reflects off the stone at certain angles.
Moss Agate Jellyfish Decoration
The hood of this jellyfish is tumble polished from a raw moss agate stone found by our family and can spin on the sculpture to face any direction. The tentacles are sculpted from sheet metal, round wire, and round wire that has been rolled and twisted for added texture.
This piece shines beautifully displayed in a window and comes with bubbly loops on top to make hanging easy. We have found banana hangers make convenient displays!
Palm Root Nightscape
This cabochon was cut from a slab of Indonesian petrified palm root. There is a small pockmark in the face of the stone that is barely visible with the naked eye, but can be felt with a fingertip— the stone is so beautiful we couldn’t bear to cut away the surrounding material!
The swooping sterling wires on the front of the piece frame the stone beautifully while leaving the face mostly clear. The black “sky” has faint swirls of what looks like common opal and possibly metallic inclusions. The front is topped with a custom, handmade bail featuring twinkling stars.
And the back! The back will transport you straight to Lothlórien! The stone becomes a golden forest at night, with a handcrafted moon nestled in the branches of a silver tree. Whichever way you choose to wear it, this is an exquisite one-of-a-kind conversation piece.
Silver Kelp Hair Pin
This gorgeous two-piece hair decoration is entirely hand-fabricated from solid sterling silver. Both pieces are slightly bent so the clasp lays flat against the head and is comfortable even when leaning back against a head-rest. They are designed to be placed with the concave faces together, then the stick is twisted 180 degrees to tighten the clasp and fix the clip securely in the hair.
A flowing stem of kelp streams across the face of the piece. The frame is hammered, work-hardening the silver so the fit will remain snug over time. The pin has been rolled through a mill to achieve the same result, and features a cluster of barnacles near the loop.
This is a piece rugged enough for daily wear and beautiful enough for a night on the town! The pin measures 14.7 cm long and the frame is 6.5 cm at its widest point. This piece will work best on its own in very thick hair but can be used as decoration or bun cover in finer hair, and would make a lovely accent piece as a shawl or clothing pin. Silver is 0.925 sterling.
Applegate Jade Witchy Marquise
This cab is cut from a local bowenite stone found by our family here in southern Oregon. It is not the “gemmiest” specimen, but its impurities and inclusions give it so much character!\
This piece began as a wire wrap, which was then adorned with shelf mushrooms and ivy. Check out the close-up— those shelf mushrooms have all the realistic layers and textures! The back is relatively simple with a crescent moon and mushrooms, but truly completes the magical forest feel of the piece. The whole thing is topped with a custom-made ivy bail.
Applegate Jade Mushroom With Sprout
This cabochon is cut from a bowenite stone found by our family near our home in southern Oregon. Locals call this stone “applegate jade,” and it is known for its deep green translucence and black flecks of magnetite that cause it to attract a magnet! Very deep green, almost black in some light, it really glows when light passes through.
The silver mushroom form is paired with a sweet little sprout, entirely hand fabricated and modeled after young vines currently appearing on the forest floor around our home. The back was left empty to allow the stone to really shine, and the whole thing is topped with a custom made vining leaf bail.
Still Life With Twig
This still life pendant has been entirely hand-sculpted from 0.925 sterling silver. It is truly three dimensional and can be appreciated from all angles! The twig itself is impressively realistic, and made even more so by the cluster of cup lichen at its base. A wee silver inch worm making its way toward the bail is the perfect topping for this sweet little piece of nature-inspired art.
Serpentine Pond At Night
The cabochon for this magical portal is cut from serpentine found by our family here in southern Oregon. The deep green stone with shiny flecks of magnetite invoke feelings of a warm, starry, summer night over a pond. The front is framed by intricate, hand-shaped silver cattails, while the back includes a dragonfly resting for a moment on a twig. The mood of the piece is neatly complemented by a silver moon on the handmade bail.
While the cattails are not dangerously sharp, this piece is spiky and delicate! Care should be taken not to snag those lovely long leaves during wear.
Measures 5.4 cm from the top of the bail to its base and 5.1 cm at its widest point.
Oak Leaf Clothing Pin
This one of a kind silver oak leaf clothing pin was made using a leaf from the forest floor around our home in southern Oregon as a model.
The leaf was hand-cut from sheet metal, and painstakingly textured to get that magical crinkly texture around the veins!
This piece is finished with a hand-shaped pin fastener, so it can be worn on any fabric. These could adorn a favorite hat, shoulder bag, jacket lapel, t-shirt, anything!
Solid 0.925 sterling silver has been oxidized for dimensionality. Leaf measures 6.4 cm long and 3.1 cm at its widest point.
Applegate Jade Ivy Nightscape
This stone was found by our family near our home in southern Oregon. Folks at the local rock shop call it “applegate jade,” but it is not a true jade and is more closely related to bowenite. It’s a deep green stone, nearly black in some lighting, with flecks of magnetite that actually makes it attractive to magnets! It glows a translucent yellow-green when backlit.
This stone has a dark green stripe down the middle that gives the impression of a pupil— with the ivy “antlers” this piece reminds us of a forest guardian in the spirit of Studio Ghibli!
Each ivy leaf is hand-shaped from sterling sheet, and the vines are textured to mimic their wild counterparts. The back is polished for a smooth feel against the skin and finished with a full moon peeking through the branches of a tree.
All silver is 0.925 sterling, and the piece will come on solid sterling chain with a hand-made clasp. If you would like to customize the length, please send us a message when you purchase! Measures 12.5 cm across and hangs about 8 cm from the top of the highest ivy leaves to the base of the stone.
Rose Quartz Jellyfish
This rose quartz cabochon has been dressed up in a flowing 0.925 sterling silver seascape! The hanging tendrils appear fluid and delicate, but are reinforced with attachment points everywhere they touch. That said, it would be possible for them to snag on a loose-knit garment, so care should be taken when worn.
The back features a cluster of kelp, swaying in the current, and the piece is capped with a custom-made bubbly bail. A truly stunning statement piece.
Cat Tail on Applegate Jade
This water droplet cabochon is cut from bowenite (called applegate jade by the locals) found by our family near our home in southern Oregon. The top of the cab shows some of the opaque matrix of the stone, and the bottom has the gorgeous green translucence the stone is known for. A small chatoyant seam crosses the cabochon at one corner.
The gleaming cattail is framed by rough branches hand-hewn from sterling silver. The bail is a large, closed circle of silver, textured to match the branches. A beautiful, bucolic pond scene!
Silver Cat Tail Hair Pin
This gorgeous two-piece hair decoration is entirely hand-fabricated from solid sterling silver. Don’t let the delicacy of the cat tail and dragonfly fool you— this is a sturdy piece of hardware that will stay put through a busy day!
Both pieces are slightly bent so the clasp lays flat against the head and is comfortable even when leaning back against a head-rest. They are designed to be placed with the dragonfly facing the hair, then the dragonfly is twisted 180 degrees tightening the clasp and securing the decoration securely in the hair. The frame is hammered, work-hardening the silver so the fit will remain snug over time. The pin has been rolled through a mill to achieve the same result.
This is a piece rugged enough for daily wear and beautiful enough for a night on the town! The pin measures 10.6 cm long and the frame is 4.5 cm at its widest point. Silver is 0.925 sterling.
Red Jasper Mushroom
This uniquely shaped red jasper cabochon was cut from a stone found by our family in Humboldt County, California. All metalwork is done in 0.925 sterling silver.
The sweet little rounded mushroom base frames a cluster of young mushrooms, and the back of the bezel setting features a trio of hand-cut and textured oak leaves.
Measures 4.2 cm from the top of the bail to the base, and 3.5 cm at the widest point of the cap.
Quartz Jellyfish Decoration
The quartz hood of this jellyfish is polished from a raw stone found on our family’s hillside in southern Oregon and can spin on the sculpture to face any direction. The tentacles are sculpted from sheet metal, round wire, and round wire that has been rolled and twisted for added texture.
This piece shines beautifully displayed in a window and comes with bubbly loops on top to make hanging easy. We have found banana hangers make convenient displays!
Jellyfish measures 11.4 cm from the top of its hanging bubbles to the tip of its longest tentacle and 3.2 cm at the widest part of the quartz stone. All metal is 0.925 sterling silver.
Applegate Jade Night Magic
This cabochon is cut from “applegate jade” (bowenite) found by my family near our home in southern Oregon. The stone is very dark, almost black, in shade; deep green when well-lit; and translucent when back-lit. Plus, it attracts a magnet!
The base of the frame is copper while the tree and ivy leaves are hand-sculpted from argentium silver. The whole piece was oxidized, then the silver hand-polished back to bright.
This piece truly feels like a portal into a magical world! Measures 4.5 cm long and 3.8 cm at its widest point.
Octopus's Garden Plume Agate
This cabochon was cut from a plume agate stone with striking red and yellow markings and two sparkling druzy pockets. The agate agate material means the cabochon is quite translucent when back-lit.
Tube coral stretches up from the bottom left of the solid silver frame, each tip painstakingly drilled to appear hollow and accented by a column of bubbles rising to the bail. Another coral plant on the right completes the front of the frame.
The back features a graceful row of pneumatocysts, whose buoyancy keeps kelp floating at the surface of the ocean. All silver has been oxidized and polished.
Winged Sunburst
This is a beautifully dainty, detailed piece of metal sculpture! The sunburst is hand-cut from copper sheet, while the wings are entirely sculpted from argentium silver. A truly striking piece from the painstakingly formed talons at the tips of the wing spines to the tiny, cut-out flares in the sunburst! Hidden bail attachments for a cord are attached to the backs of the wings.
This piece measures in with a wingspan of 9.5 cm and is 6.3 cm tall.
Silver Tree Hair Pin
This gorgeous two-piece hair decoration is entirely hand-fabricated from solid sterling silver.
Both pieces are slightly bent so the clasp lays flat against the head and is comfortable even when leaning back against a head-rest. They are designed to be placed with the concave faces together, then the stick is twisted 180 degrees to tighten the clasp and securing the decoration securely in the hair. The frame is hammered, work-hardening the silver so the fit will remain snug over time. The pin has been rolled through a mill to achieve the same result.
This is a piece rugged enough for daily wear and beautiful enough for a night on the town! The pin measures 10.2 cm long and the frame is 3.9 cm at its widest point, if your hair is especially thick it may not hold it all. Silver is 0.925 sterling.
Petrified Wood Portal
This cabochon is cut from a piece of petrified wood found by our family near our home in southern Oregon. The front has been left raw to highlight all the glorious woody texture while the sides and back have been polished smooth. The rough front naturally left some gaps in the frame, which allowed space for extra mushrooms and ivy vines to creep their way out. A natural druzy seam is just barely visible making its way from the bottom ivy leaf on the left to the top mushroom cap on the right.
This magical portal comes equipped with a tiny handle and a matching bail of hammered sheet metal adorned with a tiny ivy sprig. The back neatly complements the roughness of the front with a hand-shaped silver twig holding the stone firmly in place. The frame and all sculptural elements are fashioned from solid silver that has been oxidized to highlight its dimensionality and polished.
Measures 5.0 cm from the top of the bail to the base of the frame and 2.9 cm at its widest point.
Grass Stem Cuff Bracelet
This solid silver cuff bracelet features a hand-sculpted grass seed stem, with the stem at one end and the grass tip at the other. Just like the grass it was modeled after, the seed heads start out larger and more widely spaced and get smaller and closer together across the band.
Humboldt Jasper Oak Leaves
The stone in this pendant is cut from jasper found by our family in Humboldt County, California. The stone has moss-like deep red coloration at the top that slowly transitions to orange-yellow highlights at the bottom. Between is a swooping flurry of hand-cut and shaped copper oak leaves, modeled after actual leaves from the white and black oaks in the forest around our home in southern Oregon. The wrap is topped with a custom matching bail, and backed with a windy free-form wire design.
On Applegate Jade Pond
This bucolic pond scene takes place over an “applegate jade” (bowenite) cabochon, modeled after the shape a drop of water forms when hanging from a large curved surface. The stone is a deep green with grey and black inclusions, attracts a magnet, and is partially translucent when back-lit.
All the elements are hand-sculpted from silver wire and sheet metal, with a small copper ball at the center of the lily flower. The custom bail features a small lily pad and wandering vine.
This pendant measures 5.6 cm long (including the bail) and 4.0 cm at its widest point.
Petrified Wood Doorway With Wild Roses
This stone is an opalized petrified wood found by our family in southern Oregon. The front surface was left rough to retain the wood texture and grain, while the back and edges are polished to expose the creamy common opal interior.
The vining wild roses are modeled after the roses that grow in our woods and are hand-shaped from copper with silver centers. The copper mushrooms and roses are untreated and can be kept polished bright or left to develop a natural patina over time.
The silver knob is inserted through a hole drilled in the cab and fastened securely on the back so no adhesives were needed. The silver frame and window on the back completes the look of a magical portal!
Applegate Jade Witchy Portal
This gemmy, round “applegate jade” (bowenite) cabochon is framed in silver vining ivy. The stone is a very deep green that almost appears black in the shade, and glows beautifully bright green when back-lit. This photo shows the stone from which the cab was cut.
Ivy leaves are textured and cut by hand from sheet metal. A custom, handmade bail features a crescent moon that accentuates the still night feeling of the piece. The back includes a fused silver tree with a moon in its branches. The whole frame was oxidized dark, then the leaves, vines, and moon were hand-polished back to bright.
Applegate Jade Tree with Tire Swing
We’ve been calling this stone “half-cooked” applegate jade— it’s a beautiful green base with orange-yellow speckles, and is translucent at the thin edges of the cabochon. Each of the 72 wire ends of the copper tree of life is soldered to the frame, allowing a more decorative back than tying them off individually.
The twisted rope and tire swing are constructed from argentium silver— and the swing actually swings from the branch!
Measures 5.2 cm tall and 3.5 cm at its widest point.
Petrified Wood Terrarium
The stone base of this piece is an agatized petrified wood found by our family in Southern Oregon. The top was left raw to show the look and feel of the original wood while the rest of the cabochon was polished to a domed shine. The stone is set using a combination of bezel-setting and prong-setting to achieve the desired effect.
A cluster of three mushrooms peeks up from behind the stone, and a vine of hand-cut and textured ivy leaves climbs up one side. The pendant dangles freely from the custom mushroom bail. A lovely, earthy-feeling piece!
Agate Vine Commission
This commission cabochon is a large (we think it's Montana) agate with a raw edge and a substantial druzy layer. Larkin wanted to protect the cab with a robust frame, and the customer wanted an organic plant-y feeling design. Some leafing vines, a custom bail, a few mushrooms and a couple of wild roses really complement the stone beautifully!
Lapis Lazuli Marquise
This lapis lazuli marquise cabochon is surrounded by gleaming swirls of silver, crafted in a combination of wrapping and fusing.
Applegate Jade Planet and Moon
This cabochon is a doublet, composed of a very thin, gemmy slice of applegate jade (bowenite) backed by a thicker piece of white/clear quartz. This combination makes the green in the dark stone really shine! The planet’s ring follows the naturally occurring line in the stone where it transitions from the lighter, sandier green at the bottom to the deep green at the top. The back of the wrap is visible through the stone when backlit, and was designed with this in mind.
The silver frame includes a moon hemisphere, complete with craters and markings modeled from pictures of Earth’s moon! Silver ivy leaves on the back of the wrap climb a crescent moon, complementing the feel of the front of the stone. A truly interstellar beauty!
Rose Quartz Moon
This slab of rose quartz was cut diagonal to a band of clearer quartz, resulting in an arched moon when the round cab was domed and polished. Wrapped mostly in silver with a contrasting arch of copper in the frame, this piece evokes a fairy moon from an ancient illuminated manuscript!
The back is fashioned to suit the front, with a silver crescent moon and a curling vine with copper leaves. The finished piece measures 4.5 cm tall and 3.5 wide.
Petrified Wood Ivy Gate
This cabochon is cut from a piece of petrified wood found by our family near our home in southern Oregon. Silver wire is wrapped into a doorframe adorned with hand-shaped copper ivy leaves cascading from a silver vine and a clump of copper mushrooms. Copper adornments are untreated and can be kept polished bright or left to develop a natural patina over time. The window on the back completes the transformation of this stone into a magical doorway!
Measures 5.6 cm long and 3.4 cm at its widest point.
Moss Agate Tree Of Life
A quintessentially autumnal piece! This moss agate cabochon boasts gorgeous, earthy reds and yellows— the perfect backdrop for an intricate tree of life. Wrapped in copper that has been oxidized and polished until darkly gleaming.
Measures 6.3 cm long and 3.5 cm at its widest point.
Lavender Quartz Jellyfish
This uniquely shaped cabochon is cut from a rose quartz stone with more flashy blue in it than most, which the folks at our local rock shop affectionately dubbed “lavender” quartz. The frame and curling tendrils are constructed with a combination of wrapping and fusing, resulting in a piece that is amazingly sturdy while capturing the dainty, ethereal spirit of a jellyfish! Even the back features whimsical underwater bubbles!
Measures 6.5 cm at its longest point and 3.9 cm at its widest point.
Springtime Applegate Jade
This gorgeous, swirly green applegate jade is one of our family’s favorite stones! The cabochon is mostly opaque with some areas that glow translucent green when back-lit. The silver frame has been sculpted, fused and wrapped to complement the feel of the stone. This piece has beautifully dainty details while feeling solid and sturdy in the hand. Comes with a hand-sculpted fused bail.
Measures 4.4 cm long and 4.4 cm at its widest point.
Applegate Jade Lily Pad
This round “applegate jade” (bowenite) cabochon is semi-translucent and full of deep, rich greens. It is framed in silver that has been wrapped, sculpted, fused, and accented with copper. The copper cat tails and lily center are untreated and can be left to develop a natural patina or kept polished bright.
Applegate Jade Spring
This teardrop cabochon is cut from a piece of applegate jade found by our family near our home in southern Oregon. This particular swirly green stone has veins of translucence, but is mostly opaque. The cab is set in gleaming silver that has been shaped, fused, and wrapped into its final form. Measuring in at 6.6 cm long and 6 cm at its widest point, this is a gorgeous, bold statement piece!
Alien Serpentine
Do you want to believe? This serpentine cabochon depicts a landscape that has seen better days, perhaps due to the arrival of little green aliens. The frame is entirely silver, with the exception of the copper UFO. The copper is untreated and can be kept polished bright or left to develop a natural patina over time. The back is somehow hopeful, with silver stars twinkling through the branches of a tree. The black in the stone contains iron and will attract a magnet!
Red Jasper Mermaid
This cabochon is cut from a gorgeous brecciated red jasper stone our family found in northern California. The frame is wrapped copper wire, with a hand-shaped fused argentium silver piece holding the stone in place on the back. The mermaid tail setting combined with the bright stone is the perfect marriage of fire and water!
Moss Agate Dragon Tail
This distinctive moss agate cabochon is cut from a slab gifted by a friend. The stone is partly transparent when back-lit, so the back is simple to let the light shine through unhindered.
The inside of the frame and circlet holding it in place on back are argentium silver, and the spines and tail end are copper. The tail is hand-shaped from sheet metal and fused in place. The main join on the body of the wrap is also fused so the stone can sit flush against the wires.
Applegate Jade Lagoon
This cabochon is cut from a piece of applegate jade found by our family in southern Oregon. Some of the stone’s crust is included at the bottom of the cab and we keep seeing a frog-like face: a creature from the green lagoon!
The main frame is sculpted, wrapped and soldered from copper wire, and the back plate is fused and wrapped in argentium silver wire. The stone glows brilliantly when backlit— this is a gorgeous piece from any angle!
Measures 4.8 cm long and 3.4 cm at its widest point.
Vining Rose Doublet
This cabochon is a doublet formed from a face of rose quartz backed by obsidian, resulting in a really unique grey-lavender tone. Wrapped in argentium silver roses and vines, the back is left simple to showcase the translucence of the stones.
Measures 4.2 cm long and 4.4 cm at its widest point, the bail is designed so the cord will thread through the looping vines.
Galactic Sodalite
This brilliant blue sodalite cab boasts swirls and bubbles of patterning that feel positively galactic! The stone is complemented by the silver frame that has been wrapped and fused in waves and spirals.
Measures 6.2 cm long and 3.3 cm at its widest point.
Humboldt Chert Shell
Our family found this beautiful blue-green chert on the northern California coast. The cabochon is polished to a high shine and framed in oxidized silver wire, shaped with a combination of wrapping and fusing. The wrap has an aquatic shell feel, very appropriate for a stone formed in the ocean!
Measures 5 cm long and 2.6 cm a its widest point.
Applegate Jade Planet
This applegate jade cabochon was cut from a stone found by our family near our home in southern Oregon. Framed in bright argentium silver, this wrap is really out of this world!
Measures 4.2 cm tall and 4.6 cm at its widest point.
Chert Blues
This coastal blue-green chert has some striking streaks highlighted by the wire line across its face. Silver swoops and swirls finish the piece.
Measures 5 cm long and 3 cm at its widest point.
Obsidian Disks
This striking pendant is formed from three obsidian disks, polished flat rather than as traditionally domed cabs to showcase the patterning in the stone. In the shade (or against a dark background) the stones have the traditional appearance of glossy black obsidian, but against a pale background you can see the swirling black patterns in the otherwise grey stone. Either way, the silver wrap really gleams against the stone!
Mermaid Tail On Coral
A mermaid tail seems especially appropriate for this wrap on a purchased fossilized coral cabochon! This copper wrap is perfectly evocative of ocean waves and finned friends-- a lovely blend of whimsical and elegant.
Copper is oxidized dark and polished bright. Measures 4.8 cm long and 5 cm at its widest point.
Sheet Metal Book
This mini book is made entirely out of copper and brass sheet metal, plus silver solder. It is hollow, so quite lightweight.
The cover is textured to look like aged leather, and the brass name plates are polished bright. The texture of the pages was created by scoring brass sheet metal with a knife blade. A cord can be attached to the jaunty little bookmark!
Applegate Jade Drop
This applegate jade piece shows just how versatile that stone is! It's almost black in the shade, deep green in bright light, and translucent green when back-lit! This cabochon is cut from a stone our family found and is wrapped in swoops and swirls of oxidized copper.
The finished piece measures 4.4 cm long and 3.2 cm at its widest point.
Serpentine Waves
This asymmetric teardrop cab was cut from gorgeous grey-green serpentine found by our family near our home in southern Oregon. The stone’s impression of fluid movement is mirrored by the waves and bubbles of the oxidized copper wrap.
Measures 5.6 cm long and 3.2 at its widest point.
Ocean View Jasper
This cabochon is cut from a jasper stone we found near our home in southern Oregon. Larkin (the Idle Talons artist) sees the crown of a tree in the foreground at the top, with beach, water, and sky below. The negative space in the wrap neatly mirrors the negative space cut in the stone.
The photo is taken with the stone from which the cab was cut. The copper wrap beautifully takes the place of the copper-colored crust on the rough stone.
Applegate Jade Vines
This asymmetric cabochon is cut from one of our favorite applegate jade finds. A combination of wrapping and fusing is used to frame it in sweet silver vines. Pictured with the stone from which it was cut,
Mermaid Queen Moonstone
Oxidized argentium silver around a purchased moonstone cabochon.
Amazonite Lagoon
This teardrop amazonite cab looks like crystal clear Caribbean waters! It is framed with silver and accented with faceted amazonite and smooth mother of pearl beads. This piece will call to mind the halcyon days of summer even on the darkest winter days!
Measures 5.4 cm long and 3.7 cm at its widest point.
Tree of Life
The background cab of this piece is cut from a stone we found while we were still learning what applegate jade looks like in the wild. We suspect this stone is a mixture of applegate jade, serpentine, and magnetite.
The mini moon cab is cut from local quartz and tangled in the branches of a tree of life. The frame and tree have been oxidized and polished.
Bezel Set Jasper
This is Larkin's second foray into bezel setting, this time in copper. Larkin cut the cheerfully asymmetric tear drop cabochon from a fabulously patterned purchased jasper slab. Larkin's style really comes through in the wirework holding it in place on back.
Measures 4 cm long, and 1.3 cm at widest point.
Applegate Jade Triangle
This double-sided applegate jade cabochon was cut from a stone found by our family near our home in southern Oregon. Both sides are domed and polished, with a hole drilled sideways through the point so that both faces remain whole and unbroken. The twisted copper wire frame is not attached to the stone so both hang freely. Small soldered loops hold the cord on the “back” of the frame.
Measures 4.3 cm tall and 2.5 cm at the base of the triangle.
Vining Rose Quartz
Everything's coming up roses around the Idle Talons workshop! Larkin cut the cab for this piece from a piece of rose quartz that the folks at the rock shop affectionately dubbed "lavender quartz" due to its blue tinge-- its purple really pops against the true red of the roses!
Larkin shaped the argentium silver roses and leaves first, and fused them into place on the silver vining rose wire. The base of the frame is copper, with the silver vines wrapped in as it was made. The whole frame was oxidized, then Larkin hand polished every single silver component to bring out the bright silver contrast.
This is a gorgeous piece, with meticulous detail. That said, Larkin is not planning to make another like it because it took so. stinking. long!
Applegate Jade Scroll
This round applegate jade cabochon was cut from a stone (pictured) our family found near our home in southern Oregon. The brilliant green swirls in the stone are beautifully framed in swooping silver scrollwork.
Measures 115 cm (4.5 inches) across with a drop of 55 cm (2.2 inches)
Applegate Jade Marquise
Larkin created this piece for someone wanting rich, earthy colors in a copper wrap. The gorgeous marquise-cut cabochon is applegate jade, and includes the full range of materials that stone offers, from the sandy-looking rind to the deep green, translucent interior. It still blows us away that we can find rocks like this near our home!
Vining Applegate Jade
This delicate piece features a cab cut from applegate jade found by our family near our home in southern Oregon. The deep green stone appears almost black in the shade, is a gorgeous deep green in brighter light, and glows brilliantly when backlit. The vines on the reverse side of this piece make it hard to decide which side is the “right” side!
Silver wire was shaped, wrapped, pressed, and fused to form the frame. Pictured with the stone from which the cab was cut.
Asymmetric Quartz
This piece was made for a neighbor who found the stone on their property after it burned last summer in the Almeda Fire. They have invited Larkin back to do some very close to home rockhounding as they have found a ton of jasper, agate, quartz, and even some stones that look a lot like applegate jade (but what the heck is it doing there?!)! Witnessing our neighbors' journey while the whole community recovers from wildfire has been truly humbling.
This was a small Quartz With Cool Green And Orange Coloring (I'm sure that's the technical term) stone to begin with, so Larkin embraced its asymmetry in both the cab and the wrap style. Larkin sees a forest releasing clouds of springtime pollen. :)
Biggs Jasper Tree of Life
This cab is cut from a piece of banded black jasper that we believe is from Biggs, OR. The beautiful patterning is subtle and jumps out in direct light, while the stone appears almost obsidian black in the shade. The frame is shaped from copper which has been oxidized and polished until it gleams, adding amazing depth and texture to the piece. The tree is formed from bright silver that stands out brilliantly against the darker frame and stone.
Measures 5.9 cm long and 3 cm at its widest point.

Measures 7.6 cm between the two cord connection points and 4.7 cm from the top of the scrollwork to the bottom
Plume Agate Wrap
This gifted plume agate cabochon is like a porthole into an underwater scene! The top of the cab is quite translucent and the wire curls on its back were designed to complement it when they show through.
Wrapped in copper which has been oxidized and polished, the finished piece measures 4.3 cm long and 2.9 cm at its widest point.
Shardas Dragon

Materials: metal wire, glass beads. This dragon is named after a character from Jessica Day George’s Dragon Slippers series.

Measures 4.7 cm long and 3.5 cm at its widest point.
Moonstone Drop

Roses and Lace
Our family found this opalized agate stone near our home in southern Oregon. The combination of translucent agate and opaque common opal (common because it lacks the flash that the precious gem is known for) gives a lacy effect that is complemented by the delicate wire roses. Larkin ground and polished the cabochon and wrapped it in copper that has been oxidized and polished. Pictures with the raw stone and a remaining slab are included. 5.4 cm long and 2.8 cm at the widest point.
Strawberry Calcite
This strawberry calcite cabochon was cut from a small piece of stone gifted from a fellow enthusiast at the rock shop. Calcite takes a polish beautifully and is a relatively soft stone so these copper swoops were buffed by hand rather than put through the tumbling polisher. A very elegant wrap!
4.8 cm long, 2.9 cm at widest point.
Red Jasper Flame
This cabochon is cut from a very striking piece of red jasper found by our family in southern Oregon. The shape and color of the cab, combined with the style of the copper wire wrap, evoke the feeling of a flame. Historically, red jasper has been associated with vibrancy and endurance, worn by warriors and those who wish to champion justice. Today, it is more commonly viewed as a grounding stone, promoting connection to the earth. No matter your view, this piece is a gorgeous talisman!
Measures 5.7 cm long and 3 cm wide. Copper wire has been oxidized and polished.
Chert Waves
This coastal chert stone was found by our family while visiting grandparents in northern California. This beautiful blue-green cab with sparkling quartz veining may be the last Larkin is able to form from this stone!
Measures 5.4 cm long and 2.9 cm at its widest point. Wrapped in copper wire which has been oxidized and polished.
Winged Sunset Sodalite
This cabochon is cut from sunset sodalite, so named due to the areas of pink/peach in the otherwise brilliant blue stone. Sunset sodalite is said to bring its wearer clarity, strength, and confidence.
With a wingspan of 14.5 cm and a drop of almost 8 cm from the tips of the wings to the base of the stone, this is a bold statement piece with delicate details. Copper wire has been lightly oxidized and hand polished.
Quartz Moon Fox
This quartz cabochon is finished with a matte polish to capture the soft glow of the moon. It is a rough, crystalline structure, and while you might not be able to see it with the naked eye, the cab does have some pocking/texture if you run your fingernail over the surface.
The adorable fox kit and its frame are constructed from copper wire which has been oxidized and polished. Idle Talons hereby formally acknowledges the customer’s right to see this as a wolf cub if desired. ;)
Measures 4.3 cm long and 3.3 cm at its widest point.

Puff has a ton of personality with a shiny green opalescent body and amazingly detailed wing veining. Measures about 10 cm nose to tail tip, with a wingspan of about 15 cm as hung. This dragon will set you to humming and smiling whenever you pass by!

Measures 4.3 cm long and 4.7 cm at its widest point.
Red Jasper Sun
We love this red jasper our family found in Humboldt County, California! Its red and black brecciated surface is perfect for this beaming sun wrap. Undulating Applegate Jade
This unique cabochon was cut and polished from an Applegate jade stone found by our family in southern Oregon. This particular cab is a bit of a chameleon— looking black in some light and deep, mottled green in others. The silver wrap brings out the stone’s natural gleaming magnetite inclusions and the whimsically asymmetric bail suits the cab beautifully!
Measures 6 cm long and 2 cm across the bail.
Celestial Lapis Lazuli
This gleaming dome of lapis lazuli is framed with copper wire and accented by metallic star and copper beads. The whole Idle Talons team agrees that the result calls to mind stars, space, and planets! Measures 4.6 cm long and 4.1 cm at its widest point. Copper has been oxidized and polished.
Our family found this yellow agatized jasper stone along the Van Duzen river in northern California. Larkin cut and polished the cabochon and wrapped it in a striking copper wire sunburst which has been oxidized and polished. Finished just after winter solstice, it’s a promise of brighter days to come!

This planet cab was cut from an Applegate jade stone found by our family in southern Oregon. Wrapped in polished copper rings, this piece is really out of this world!
This picture jasper provides a gorgeous scene, framed in copper and silver. The outer frame is copper, oxidized and polished until gleaming. The tree is formed from raw copper wires which will develop a natural, more dull patina over time. The swing is sculpted from argentium silver, polished bright.
This planet doublet is cut from a piece of moss agate (the white spot just above the rings on the face is a common opal inclusion), backed by a piece of applegate jade. The complex landscape in the stone was begging for a wrap that is literally out of this world!
Chert Marquise
This blue-green chert cab has some beautiful veining, and even a druzy pocket that geologic conditions did not quite manage to fill with druzy. Wrapped in copper that follows the lines of a couple of the most prominent veins, the finished piece is oxidized and polished to a gleaming finish.
The folks at the rock shop were calling this stone lavender quartz because it has more blue hue than most rose quartz. Larkin cut and polished the cab, then wrapped it in argentium silver with copper roses. A delicately lovely piece!

Fossilized Shell Earrings
These earrings are cut from an extra thick slab then domed and polished on both sides
Breezy Chert Scroll

Applegate Jade Tree

Larkin cut and polished the cabochon, then wrapped it in a tree that looks remarkably like some of the old oaks in the area the stone came from! The details in this piece are especially remarkable given its small size!
Tiger's Eye Marquise
This marquise was cut and polished from a purchased slab of Tiger’s Eye and boasts the stone’s distinctive golden brown flash in the sun. Tiger’s Eye is said to bring luck as well as mental focus and clarity to its wearer.
Silver Fox Commission
This quartz cabochon is finished with a matte polish to capture the soft glow of the moon. It is somehow appropriate that this piece was finished on Halloween Day! The large cabochon is shaped from a blue aventurine stone gifted from a friend.
